The “foundational district” of Cancun, designed by the brother architects Enrique and Agustín Landa in the 1960s, was well consolidated by the first decade of the second millennium, leaving the South as the next direction for the city’s growth. Vía Cumbres is one example of a growing number of private residential communities where homes such as this one were imagined and built.

Architect Jonatan Smith de Beistegui sought to express his client’s vision of a property that would be as much of a home as a space to inspire reflection and introspection.

In its rustic simplicity, the natural stone finish of the façade frames the entrance to a corridor that laces two bedrooms and leads to an ample living/dining area with an open concept kitchen. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors frame a view of a decked patio with a pool adorned by vegetation in a planter bed, shaded by trees endemic to the Maya lowland tropical forest.

During the daytime, a skylight lines the entrance corridor and illuminates the home. Come sundown, indirect cove lighting provides a gentle warm glow to peaceful nights.

Flow is maintained by keeping everything on one level, making this dwelling ideal for any person, couple, or family seeking to make a home of Cancun.

Beyond the home itself, the resident will have access to a safe, cozy community laced with corridors shaded by dense foliage and trees; parks, fish ponds and a clubhouse fully equipped with pools, courts, a gym and rec rooms.

Though itself a new property, this home is a standing sign of respect for the ancestral history and forest of this corner of the Yucatán Peninsula, of which Cancun has always been part of.
